Shop Atmosphere
“Fenwick's Sundries sits on the corner of Market Way, its windows cluttered with rope coils, lanterns and plastered notes advertising a lost hen or a missing mule. Inside it smells of oil, leather and dried herbs. Shelves are packed high; a waist-high counter has a brass bell with a dented rim. The proprietor keeps a small ledger chained to the counter and a battered wooden travel chest behind it that seems to be used as a seat. Regulars know that if the bell rings three times quickly the proprietor will produce a warm cup of tea and a story about their own younger, wilder days.”
