A sealed one-ounce vial of black ink favored by scribes throughout the Outlands and Sigil. Smooth flow, resists smudging on treated parchment.

None

Heavy, treated parchment favored for formal records and spell inscriptions. Slightly warm to the touch in Sigil's climate.

None

A full set of calligrapher's supplies for producing official seals, illuminated letters, and tidy spell notations.

None

A blank grimoire: sewn pages, reinforced spine, and a small loop for a quill. Popular with apprentice wizards and recorders.

None

A carefully inscribed magical parchment containing the formula for a first-tier spell. Ideal for emergencies or teaching.

When read by a spellcaster who can cast the spell, it allows casting the spell once. If the spell is too high-level for the reader, reading may fail and the scroll is wasted.

A spell scribed with greater complexity, meant for experienced casters or careful study.

See Spell Scroll (1st-level) for mechanics.

A robust scroll scribed with a 3rd-level spell; useful for party-defining moments.

See Spell Scroll (1st-level) for mechanics.

A palm-sized polished pearl that feels cool like polished bone. Bookkeepers prize these for focused study.

While held, grants advantage on one Intelligence (Investigation) check per day when consulting written records. Detects secret compartments in bookshelves within 10 feet once per long rest.

A small headband set with a sliver of moon-glass. Favored by scholars who need instant comprehension of foreign texts.

Once per long rest, the wearer can touch a written work and have its contents translated into a language they understand as if by Comprehend Languages for 10 minutes. Leaves faint glyphs that fade after an hour.

A compact book whose pages are thin slabs of warm-gray stone. The Archivists in Sigil lap up their ability to endure.

If placed on a still page, the stone-bound book records audio from the next minute into an invisible layer accessible only by the original owner. Stored memory persists until dispelled or broken; once per week can playback the recording aloud for up to 1 minute.

A memory crystal: a tiny captive of light used by Sigil archivists to secure the testimony of witnesses and the cadence of events.

A glassy crystal no larger than a throat lozenge. When a memory is sealed into the crystal (10 minutes of concentrated effort), it stores sensory detail for later playback. Playback reveals a single memory in first-person for up to 2 minutes. The crystal can store one memory at a time and loses its stored memory if struck with dispel magic or similar.

A feathered quill whose nib shivers when lies are told near it. Often issued to notaries and tribunal scribes.

An enchanted quill that can write spoken words as text. When dipped in scribe's ink and held, it records the next minute of speech into readable script on a blank page. Can be used three times per day and will refuse to record deliberate lies (the quill gives a faint buzz and writes ‘untrue’ in the margin).

A pale globe of glass etched with filigree; it drinks light and vomits memory. Used by investigators and archivists.

When lit, the lantern projects faint, three-dimensional echoes of events that occurred in its radius within the past 24 hours. The lantern can show at most 5 minutes of layered echoes total and can be used once per long rest. Each use reveals scenes as shadowed images without sound; a Intelligence (Investigation) check clarifies details.

A simple bookmark enchanted to alert the reader to marginalia, secrets, or hidden ink.

When slipped into a book, the rune glows if the book contains a hidden or magical script (once per day).

A scholar's loupe that brings cramped marginalia into stark clarity.

Grants bonus to checks using a tool proficiency involving written materials (calligrapher's tools, etc.) while held.

A compact ledger favored by archivists; its pages rearrange themselves to form indexes and cross-references.

When attuned, adds +1 to any single skill check involving historical knowledge or recall (History, Arcana, Religion, Nature) once per short rest. Additionally, once per long rest the ledger can organize a set of notes into a usable summary, granting advantage on one Research-style check.

Shop Atmosphere

The shop smells faintly of old rain and warm stone. Lyris insists that the books be handled only with clean hands or a silk sash (available at a discount). The shop catalog is never quite complete: a new shelf appears somewhere in the night and a few volumes quietly migrate from 'for sale' to 'reserved for the Faction' without explanation.
