Shop Atmosphere

The Gilded Grimoire sits on a crooked corner of the marketplace, its shopfront a patchwork of stained glass and brass fittings. Inside the air hums with faint wards and the scent of citrus and ink. Shelves climb two stories, filled with neatly labeled bottles, scroll tubes, boxes padded in runed velvet, and a framed 'no refunds' parchment written in three languages. A small bell made from a hollowed sphere rings only for those who mean to buy. The owner rearranges the arrangement of items every morning at dawn, muttering a soft mnemonic rhyme to 'remind the wards which things may be borrowed.' Marisol Dendre, the proprietor, is a warm half-elf wizard of middling renown. She favors tailored robes chained with tiny keys, and a single glass lens hangs from a ribbon at her throat that she peers through when bargaining. She is level 9 and used to adventuring in her youth; she enjoys modest haggling and will sweeten sales with small favors for customers she trusts. Her workshop behind the counter smells of lemon oil and old parchment. She dislikes loud dogs, has a fondness for chamomile tea, and insists on wrapping purchased magic in oiled silk for travel safety. If asked for a demonstration she will perform a short flourish but never demonstrate an item's full capabilities without paperwork and a small deposit.
