The Sellsword's Rest

Founded two decades ago by a small band of sellswords who settled near the crossroads, The Sellsword's Rest began as a simple wayside hearth for mercenaries and scouts. When the original owners vanished after a skirmish with hill bandits, Marek — once a member of that group — took over and fashioned the inn into a safer place for fledgling parties. It has long served as the town's unofficial starting point for itinerant adventurers.

History

Founded two decades ago by a small band of sellswords who settled near the crossroads, The Sellsword's Rest began as a simple wayside hearth for mercenaries and scouts. When the original owners vanished after a skirmish with hill bandits, Marek — once a member of that group — took over and fashioned the inn into a safer place for fledgling parties. It has long served as the town's unofficial starting point for itinerant adventurers.

Quirks

Every patron is issued a carved wooden token on their first paid meal — the 'First Cut'. Show it and you get one free mug of ale the day you claim your first posting from the quest board. Dice are not permitted at tables of newcomers until they've earned their token.

Lore

Locals say the flagstone in front of the hearth is kissed by 'first-luck': the founders allegedly carved a simple rune into it, so that those who ate their first meal here and left with good intent were likeliest to find fortune. Old timers also whisper of an unmarked ruin a day's march away where early recruits took their first tests — many returned with scars and at least one small story of treasure. The adventurers' guild that once scribbled notices on the original board dissolved years ago, but its pennant is still sewn into the rafters.
