The Luminous Lantern

Founded a decade ago by Maris and two retired rangers as a safe crossroads for explorations into the misty hinterlands, The Luminous Lantern grew from a lean tavern into a hub for rune-scribers and small guilds. After an arcane mishap three years ago left several lanterns permanently glowing, word spread that the place drew luck—and odd visions. Maris bought out one partner and slowly infused the place with small enchantments to balance comfort and safety. It's been a neutral meeting ground ever since, known for fair bargains and a strict rule: no bloodshed under the glow.

History

Founded a decade ago by Maris and two retired rangers as a safe crossroads for explorations into the misty hinterlands, The Luminous Lantern grew from a lean tavern into a hub for rune-scribers and small guilds. After an arcane mishap three years ago left several lanterns permanently glowing, word spread that the place drew luck—and odd visions. Maris bought out one partner and slowly infused the place with small enchantments to balance comfort and safety. It's been a neutral meeting ground ever since, known for fair bargains and a strict rule: no bloodshed under the glow.

Quirks

The lanterns above each table respond to the mood: when a heated argument begins the light flares silver briefly; during performances the lanterns cast subtle illusions to accent the tale. Patrons who sleep under the same lantern three nights in a row are said to begin having linked dreams.

Lore

Locals say the tavern sits upon a ley knot where three minor currents meet, which explains the subtle magical hum in the walls and why lanternlight sometimes shows scenes of other places. Old maps refer to the area as 'Lanternfold'; some older hunters swear a minor guardian spirit watches over those who do good beneath the tavern's beams. The Runic Noticeboard is rumored to have once belonged to a wandering runecrafter who vanished into the Arcane Marches; sometimes the sigils it displays are echoes of that crafter's unfinished contracts.
