The Moss & Moon

The Moss & Moon began as a simple shepherd's shelter built into the roots of an old oak. Over thirty years the shelter grew: a hearth, a porch, and then Marwen bought the place when the old keeper retired. Marwen expanded slowly, recruiting local woodcrafters and beekeepers to supply the tavern. The grove was once part of a ranger's patrol route; faint stone markers remain hidden beneath moss.

History

The Moss & Moon began as a simple shepherd's shelter built into the roots of an old oak. Over thirty years the shelter grew: a hearth, a porch, and then Marwen bought the place when the old keeper retired. Marwen expanded slowly, recruiting local woodcrafters and beekeepers to supply the tavern. The grove was once part of a ranger's patrol route; faint stone markers remain hidden beneath moss.

Quirks

The tavern's door is always propped with a smooth river stone carved with a moon sigil; guests who remove it are politely shunned until the stone returns. Patrons sometimes leave small trinkets on a low shelf as 'good luck for the road.'

Lore

Local folk tell of a 'Moonroot' — a fungus-like blossom that blooms once every decade beneath the elder oak. It is said to bring clear dreams to those who sleep near it, but also to lure wanderers deeper into the woods. Rangers leave simple tokens at the base of the oak to show respect; removing such tokens is considered bad luck. The tavern is respected as hospitable to both travelers and grove-spirits, which keeps it safe from petty mischief most seasons.
