The Gilded Hearth

Built three decades ago by a retired caravan master, the inn began as a single-room coaching house. Over the years it was expanded into a two-story cozy inn favored by merchants and itinerant performers. The current owner bought the place after saving the town's harvest from a late freeze, and she keeps the atmosphere intentionally unpretentious so travelers feel safer than in the busier inns along the trade road.

History

Built three decades ago by a retired caravan master, the inn began as a single-room coaching house. Over the years it was expanded into a two-story cozy inn favored by merchants and itinerant performers. The current owner bought the place after saving the town's harvest from a late freeze, and she keeps the atmosphere intentionally unpretentious so travelers feel safer than in the busier inns along the trade road.

Quirks

The innkeeper rings a small iron bell three times before locking the doors. Patrons believe three rings keep bad luck out. The bar keeps a 'second coin' jar where regulars slip a coin for travelers who need a night on the floor. If a song is played three times in a row the innkeeper will tip the performer, but only if the crowd sings along.

Lore

Locals say the inn stands on the edge of an old waystone path used by caravans in the time before the last lord built paved roads. The stones were said to bless safe travel for honest merchants but to tangle the path of thieves. Old maps tucked into the ledger mention the 'Way of Seven Fires' and a lost marker near the east hill. Bards in the common room sing of a single brazen lantern that guided a lost regiment back during a long winter.
