Originally a coachmen's stop, it was bought and refitted by Marta's mother, who established the first private rooms and began serving the house ale. Over the decades it grew into a hub for travelers, peddlers and a rotating cast of minor adventurers. Several small skirmishes spilled into its yard during past border disputes, and a secret tunnel once used by smugglers sits sealed beneath the cellar stones.

Quirks

Marta keeps a jar of 'teller's tokens' — small wooden chips she hands to patrons who tell newsworthy stories. Tokens can be traded for a free room night, a meal, or kept as social currency. The inn's cat, Bristle, 'approves' patrons by curling on their boots; when Bristle refuses to come near someone, regulars take it as a sign.

Lore

Local superstition holds the tavern's hearthstone was quarried from a fallen 'hob', a capricious earth-spirit. The stone is said to keep tempers warm and arguments short — when the hearth dies for more than an hour, bad luck follows the next day. Marta jokes about it, but old-timers still toss a coin onto the hearth before setting out on long journeys.
