The Starleaf Haven

The Starleaf Haven was carved into and around a sentinel oak planted by the first generations of elven explorers who bridged their forest realm with the wider world. Centuries ago it served as a safehouse for wanderers crossing planar thresholds. Sylvaris, once a traveling bard and archivist who helped close a minor planar breach, purchased and restored the treehouse into a public haven two decades ago. Since then it has become the de facto neutral ground for elven kin and planar travelers, maintaining a code of hospitality and secrecy.

History

The Starleaf Haven was carved into and around a sentinel oak planted by the first generations of elven explorers who bridged their forest realm with the wider world. Centuries ago it served as a safehouse for wanderers crossing planar thresholds. Sylvaris, once a traveling bard and archivist who helped close a minor planar breach, purchased and restored the treehouse into a public haven two decades ago. Since then it has become the de facto neutral ground for elven kin and planar travelers, maintaining a code of hospitality and secrecy.

Quirks

The ivy that climbs the tavern walls records notable conversations in a rustling language; every night the best gossip is recited back by the house sprites as a subtle song. Patrons can request to have a private vine forget a single conversation (for a price). On full moons, a phantom minstrel joins the stage; no one admits to inviting them.

Lore

Old songs tell of a 'Silver Thread' — a small leyline that once linked the elven high trees to a now-crumbled star-temple. The tavern sits over one of that thread's knots, and the vines that record gossip are said to be woven from its same silver energy. Local sages speak cautiously of a sealed 'Eastern Root' — a carved root of the sentinel oak which, if opened without a proper concord, could reach into the sleeping places between worlds. Many artifacts traded quietly in the Haven carry sigils from the Starward Conclave, a secretive group of elven custodians who monitor planar breaches and sometimes seed taverns like this with protective wards and watchers.
