The Gilded Spur

Built on an old stagecoach stop, the tavern was once a watering hole for merchants and miners. Years ago, Silas Gild — a charismatic outlaw who controlled the road west — remodeled the place into a saloon and front for his robberies. After Silas disappeared in a botched heist, Mara Voss took over, polished the brand into the 'Gilded Spur,' and turned it into the current thieves' den. Over time, the tavern absorbed the rail depot smugglers and the stablehands into a tight network of illicit trade.

History

Built on an old stagecoach stop, the tavern was once a watering hole for merchants and miners. Years ago, Silas Gild — a charismatic outlaw who controlled the road west — remodeled the place into a saloon and front for his robberies. After Silas disappeared in a botched heist, Mara Voss took over, polished the brand into the 'Gilded Spur,' and turned it into the current thieves' den. Over time, the tavern absorbed the rail depot smugglers and the stablehands into a tight network of illicit trade.

Quirks

A brass horseshoe nailed over the bar keeps honest coin, or so the regulars say — flip it and you might flip a story instead. The piano occasionally plays a single mournful tune on its own at midnight. Patrons are asked to remove boots on the broad bench by the back door; failing to do so is either poor manners or a show of disrespect.

Lore

Whispered tales say the tavern sits atop a forgotten stagecoach vault and a natural cave that runs beneath the western trade road; smugglers used it to move stolen goods onto trains before the city watch learned the routes. The 'Black Spur' emblem — a black horseshoe reversed — is stenciled in hidden corners and on certain bottles that are only served to known guild members. Some say the Gilded Spur holds a single bottle of 'Saltwind Brandy' distilled with a bound wind spirit; tasting it grants a small, temporary boon to one's speed at dawn — but it always exacts a debt later. The mayor keeps one eye on the tavern; the marshal keeps the other closed when the right coin is paid.
