Frostbound Hearth Lodge

Built by a mountain guide named Haldor Grey in the wake of a spring avalanche, the lodge began as a single stone room with a hearth. Over three generations the Grey family added the stables and private chambers, then turned the common room into a gathering place for hunters, trappers, and travelers seeking refuge from the northern snow. The lodge was briefly abandoned after a winter raid forty years ago, but villagers rebuilt it and entrusted its care to Astrid Stonehand, a former caravan guard, who carved the inn's carved wooden sign and painted the flagstones around the hearth.

History

Built by a mountain guide named Haldor Grey in the wake of a spring avalanche, the lodge began as a single stone room with a hearth. Over three generations the Grey family added the stables and private chambers, then turned the common room into a gathering place for hunters, trappers, and travelers seeking refuge from the northern snow. The lodge was briefly abandoned after a winter raid forty years ago, but villagers rebuilt it and entrusted its care to Astrid Stonehand, a former caravan guard, who carved the inn's carved wooden sign and painted the flagstones around the hearth.

Quirks

The tavern fills with steam and the scent of pine each hour on the half hour as a kettle above the hearth gives a quick hiss. Regulars leave small carved tokens under their mugs to save a seat; new folks who move them are often given a teasing scolding.

Lore

Local tales speak of a nearby glacial hollow called the White Maw where a stone marker from the old road stands half buried. Elders say the marker once marked the turn to a traders' mine long closed after the iron veins ran thin. Folk believe the lodge sits on a safe corridor used by hunters to avoid roaming ice wolves. Old rune-carvings have been found in the outbuilding beams but the meanings are muddled with time; some translate them as blessings for safe passage, others as boundary marks from a forgotten clan.
