The Hearth & Hound Inn
The Hearth & Hound Inn began as a single-room alehouse built above the ruined foundations of a watchtower once manned by the village militia. Two generations ago Marta Bramble's grandparents bought the site and expanded it into a cozy inn to serve farmers and travelers passing the Brierford road. Marta took over five years ago after a brief stint as a militia scout; she patched the roof herself and keeps a ledger that shows the inn has sheltered many fledgling adventurers. The cellar alcove was added when an old mason discovered a shallow alcove in the old tower stonework. Townsfolk say the inn survived a small border skirmish because the militia who defended the road drank there first and then marched out.
