The Skyglass Anchor

Built into the cliffside some thirty years ago by a retired captain who married a watch-tower keeper, The Skyglass Anchor began as a simple skiff-house and ale stand. Over time it expanded upward into three tiers as Sentinel's Perch grew into a fortified settlement and training post. Mara Vell took over the tavern a decade ago after saving its former owner from a smear of slander; she modernized the mooring lot and established the tavern's house rules — no drawn blades inside, and disputes are settled on the rocky ledge at dawn if both parties agree.

History

Built into the cliffside some thirty years ago by a retired captain who married a watch-tower keeper, The Skyglass Anchor began as a simple skiff-house and ale stand. Over time it expanded upward into three tiers as Sentinel's Perch grew into a fortified settlement and training post. Mara Vell took over the tavern a decade ago after saving its former owner from a smear of slander; she modernized the mooring lot and established the tavern's house rules — no drawn blades inside, and disputes are settled on the rocky ledge at dawn if both parties agree.

Quirks

A polished brass anchor carved with the tavern's sigil hangs above the bar; if a patron taps it three times and hums a tune, a server will bring a complimentary shot of Lake-Spritz — but only once per night. The tavern's tiers creak in a musical way on windy evenings, leading locals to claim it 'sings the weather'.

Lore

Locals claim the tavern watches the lake as much as the lake watches it: during rare 'mirror nights' the water becomes perfectly still and the Skyglass (a natural glass formation beneath the shallows) catches starlight, glowing faint blue. Folklore says ships guided by that glow found safety in storms; other tales warn that those who follow it too far vanish with their anchors still tied to the hull. Cadets at the watchtower are taught both versions as a lesson in caution and bravery.
