Dish'n, Fish'n, Wish'n

Dish'n, Fish'n, Wish'n began twenty years ago when a halfling cook named Perran 'Pike' Underbar discovered a small spring behind the old market stalls. Perran built a low, friendly diner around the spring and hung a sign with a rhyme. The basin was christened the Wishing Fountain for laughs, and soon travelers began to toss coins for meals, for luck, or simply for the novelty. Over the years ownership passed from Pike to a retired bard who added the stage, then to the current keeper. The place survived a flood, a tax dispute, and a brief occupation by traveling kobolds who only wanted to try the chowder. It is now famous in the town for quick food, brash song, and an uncanny knack for attracting trouble and treasure in equal measure.

History

Quirks

Payment is handled theatrically: you toss your coin into the fountain and someone shouts your order. The staff keeps a ledger of particularly theatrical tosses. A handful of coins disappear every full moon. The sign above the door lists three rules: pay by throw, do not poke the smoke pit, and never feed the pigeons your coin. Dish'n, Fish'n, Wish'n will not be held accountable for any illnesses resulting from the consumption of raw fish.

Lore

Locals whisper that the spring beneath the basin was once a nub of a river spirit's domain. Fisherfolk leave small shell charms in the trough and some elders say the fountain remembers favors. Sailors treat the place as holy luck before setting out, and a handful of old songs call it 'the pocket for small fortunes'. Scholars argue it is simple mineral luminescence and market superstition. Coarse cultists of luck were driven out years ago, but fragments of their prayers sometimes float up when the water bubbles oddly.
