Stonecask Hall

Stonecask Hall was hewn from an old waystone along a secondary trade road carved into granite by Clan Stonevein six generations ago. Originally a guardhouse and rest-stop for ore caravans, it became an inn when the deep routes shifted and miners began using it as a staging ground. Bromm's grandfather bought the place with a single ironcask and rebuilt the hearth after a tunnel collapse sealed the northern door. Over decades it grew a reputation as a safe shelter for delvers, an informal blacksmithing post, and a place where contracts change hands over ale.

History

Stonecask Hall was hewn from an old waystone along a secondary trade road carved into granite by Clan Stonevein six generations ago. Originally a guardhouse and rest-stop for ore caravans, it became an inn when the deep routes shifted and miners began using it as a staging ground. Bromm's grandfather bought the place with a single ironcask and rebuilt the hearth after a tunnel collapse sealed the northern door. Over decades it grew a reputation as a safe shelter for delvers, an informal blacksmithing post, and a place where contracts change hands over ale.

Quirks

Patrons chip a small rune into the bar's central stone when they owe a favor; the rune's meaning is known only to regulars. The hearth always has one 'guest seat' held for newcomers—if you sit there you are expected to tell a true story of your travels or pay for the next round.

Lore

Dwarves here speak of the 'Forge Pledge' — an old custom where each smithing hall kept a stone to bind debts and oaths; many say the stone built into the Hall's hearth still holds a sliver of that old blessing. Whispered tales tell of a lost forge chamber under the nearby veins that once produced rune-iron weapons; its flames were said to be stoked by molten song and a watchman spirit. While most consider such stories romanticized memory, the recent discovery of the clan sigil and strange hums beneath the floor has lent them new weight among those who still revere the old ways.
