The Hearth & Halflight

The Hearth & Halflight was founded thirty years ago by Marta's father, a wandering minstrel who settled after winning a dice game against the previous innkeeper. Over time it became a favored stop for merchants moving between market towns and for hunters returning from the nearby woods. After a winter fire ten years ago the inn was rebuilt with donor stones from the town watch, cementing a sense of communal ownership. Marta took over after her father's passing and expanded the stable and the little stage for traveling performers.

History

The Hearth & Halflight was founded thirty years ago by Marta's father, a wandering minstrel who settled after winning a dice game against the previous innkeeper. Over time it became a favored stop for merchants moving between market towns and for hunters returning from the nearby woods. After a winter fire ten years ago the inn was rebuilt with donor stones from the town watch, cementing a sense of communal ownership. Marta took over after her father's passing and expanded the stable and the little stage for traveling performers.

Quirks

On full moons the barmaid out front lights a string of tiny lanterns and leaves a saucer of milk near the hearth ‘for the spirits that keep our doors safe’. Patrons often leave small trinkets on the mantle as thanks for good luck; rumored to be curated by the innkeeper for more than superstition.

Lore

Locals whisper that a portion of the inn was built from timbers from a ship that sank on the nearby coast. Some items found in the woods near the inn — a brass spyglass, a carved figurehead, a rusted anchor link — fuel tales that the Hearth & Halflight stands at a crossroads between land and old sea-paths. The inn's signature ale recipe is said to include a pinch of salt from that wreck, though Marta insists it's only a storyteller's flourish.
