Stonewrought Lodge

Carved into the flank of the Greyspine Range by a dwarven clan known in local tales as the Hearthcarvers, the lodge began as a miners' refuge and signal hall. Over two centuries the stone rooms were weathered and enlarged by newcomers: mountain guides, muleteers, and retired delvers. When the mines above fell quiet, the lodge adapted into a waystation for traders and adventurers who traverse the high passes. Faint rune grooves in some of the older walls recall the original wards, their meaning half-remembered by the current keepers.

History

Carved into the flank of the Greyspine Range by a dwarven clan known in local tales as the Hearthcarvers, the lodge began as a miners' refuge and signal hall. Over two centuries the stone rooms were weathered and enlarged by newcomers: mountain guides, muleteers, and retired delvers. When the mines above fell quiet, the lodge adapted into a waystation for traders and adventurers who traverse the high passes. Faint rune grooves in some of the older walls recall the original wards, their meaning half-remembered by the current keepers.

Quirks

Patrons leave a small carved stone on the bar as an informal tally of paid favors. The hearth often spits a single ember into the air at odd moments, which locals say is the mountain clearing its throat. Songs and stories told on the hearth stage sometimes echo with a faint underlying hum from the carved rune, causing bards to miss a note they swore they hit. The lodge enforces a 'no shouting on the ledges' rule after a drunken dare led to a lost pack horse. Loose coins left on the mapboard are considered payment for route advice and may be spent by any guide who points a safe path.

Lore

Locals call the place the Stonewrought Lodge. Old Hearthcarver inscriptions name the ridge 'Stonevein' and speak of a deep vein of rock that sings when struck. Mountain spirits of the Greyspine are said to be temperamental; offerings of a small carved stone or a cup of mead are left at a niche by the back stair. Traders sometimes leave a payment stone marked with a small notch to show they paid passage through nearby passes. Legends say the original builders left a hidden chamber keyed to a song, but the song is fractured across three rune-chips scattered in nearby caves.
