The Fourfold Hearth

The Fourfold Hearth was founded decades ago by Marella's grandmother, who once guided caravans through the capricious passages to Lunga. The house grew around an old oak whose roots cross a place of thin seasons—travelers found comfort there and the Hearth became a waypoint for merchants, guides, and scholars studying the forest's anomalies. Over the years it weathered bandit sieges, a small planar bleed that charred the west wing (now rebuilt), and a brief occupation by a cult of seasonal worshippers who were peacefully persuaded to move on by a coalition of locals.

History

The Fourfold Hearth was founded decades ago by Marella's grandmother, who once guided caravans through the capricious passages to Lunga. The house grew around an old oak whose roots cross a place of thin seasons—travelers found comfort there and the Hearth became a waypoint for merchants, guides, and scholars studying the forest's anomalies. Over the years it weathered bandit sieges, a small planar bleed that charred the west wing (now rebuilt), and a brief occupation by a cult of seasonal worshippers who were peacefully persuaded to move on by a coalition of locals.

Quirks

At any time the tavern's lanterns, fungi and pumpkin lights subtly shift color to match whichever of the forest's four seasons is strongest within the surrounding grove. Patrons sometimes swap sticks of dried season-fern as tokens—those carrying another's fern are expected to share a story of travel before nightfall.

Lore

Local lore holds that the Four Seasons Forest is a seam where four minor seasonal spirits play, and that certain groves hang on to one season longer than the rest. Legends say a road through that seam opens to Lunga only when the forest displays all four seasons within sight—an omen sought by pilgrims and opportunists alike. The tavern's Seasonal Suite is rumored to be built over an old sentinel stone that once marked a ritual threshold. Old maps mention 'the Lantern Groves'—bioluminescent fungi patches that guide travelers between pockets—but warn that following their light without a guide can lead one in circles, or into memories of other lives.
