Maevis arrived as an itinerant tinkerer and parlayed a couple of innovative ore-stabilizers into enough coin to buy the lot. Over the last decade the inn has become the unofficial hub for claim registration, ore trading, and the exchange of artificing ideas.

Quirks

The inn keeps a rotating 'Claim Cup'—a beaten iron goblet that Maevis fills with a little of each day's mined sample. Patrons who add something get a coin and bragging rights for a day. The hearth is always a little smoky; stray sparks sometimes set off a small mechanical chime (Maevis' doing) whenever a particularly fine ore is mentioned.

Lore

Local miners tell two persistent legends: one speaks of 'the Mother Vein', a seam said to sing under the full moon and yield metal that sharpens will and mind; the other warns of 'glassfire'—a crystal vein that can flare into living flame if unearthed improperly. Maevis keeps a small locked chest labeled 'Do Not Pry' containing a shard rumored to be a sample of that glassfire, though she insists it's only a curiosity.
