Every night in fall, carved pumpkins from the forest pulse in sync with the inn's hearth — a local superstition says the pulses match the heartbeats of those who are far from home. The tavern keeps a 'Seasonboard': a chalkboard that tracks which quarter of the Four Seasons Forest (spring pool, summer glade, autumn bough, winter hollow) has the most travelers that day; the board changes daily and offers small discounts to patrons who best the tavern at a seasonal riddle.

Lore

Local legend says the Fourfold Lantern stands on the seam of a minor seasonal fey domain: bargains struck here must be honored by the woods. The carved pumpkins are said to be small 'lantern-wards' that help the forest remember who is a friend. Travelers who disrespect the seasons (take moss in winter, heat a spring in autumn, etc.) may find themselves turned around in the forest until they atone. Stories claim that once every few decades the inn's hearth will kindle a blue flame that calls a guardian 'Seasonspeaker' — an enigmatic figure who walks the boundary between autumn and winter — though no patron can agree on what the Seasonspeaker wants when it appears.
