Quirks

The tavern always smells faintly of coal and iron; most patrons wear a thin film of soot on their cuffs. When a formal deal is struck, Hroth rings the two-note bell and pins a signed trade slip to the Barter Board. Customers who can produce a stamped 'Barter Token' (issued by visiting merchant houses) get a small discount; Hroth is fond of privately adjusting prices for those who bring interesting goods or tales.

Lore

Khar-Volq's merchants swear by the 'Pact of the Struck Coin' — an informal code said to have been hammered out on a single night in this very hall. The Soot-Stained Barter-Hall is considered neutral ground: a signed slip there binds a merchant's honor almost as surely as a notarized contract. Whispered tales say a 'Cinder Relic' once saved the city in a siege and was thereafter hidden; every few generations its name resurfaces on the Barter Board, dragging adventurers and crooks alike into the stone-shadowed halls beneath the pillars.
