Hollowed from an old magma vent and widened by Duergar miners generations ago, the cave was a trade shelter before Grathk Stoneveil turned it into the Sapphire Maw, a nightclub and talent brokerage. Grathk bought the tunnel rights with favors, iron, and a short war with a rival crew. Over a decade the Maw became the main hub for new vices and new acts in the Great Crag. Its reputation grew as entertainers who rose from obscurity within its walls got shipments, protection, and, sometimes, strange disappearances. Recently the club became the primary market for a new stimulant called R-Cane, shifting the Maw from performance house to kingmaker for underworld fortunes.

Quirks

Performers sign contracts on stamped obsidian slates and sometimes leave a tooth or ring as collateral. The house plays a subtle rhythm known as the Maw Beat that raises patrons' heart rates and makes them tip more. Staff speak in clipped, two-syllable code when discussing restricted goods. The club enforces a 'no blood' policy on the main floor: visible violence earns a marked collar for the offender and expulsion to the lower tunnels. Many of the club's lights are bio-luminescent fungi that flicker when someone tells a lie near them.

Lore

Duergar are natives of the deep and favor subterranean strongholds. The Great Crag is a fractured complex of caverns and mining holds that rose into a rough city of stone. The Sapphire Maw sits where a thermal seam feeds mineral-glass chandeliers and where sound echoes in a way that makes performances almost hypnotic. Among the Maw's employees are sleeper agents that use the club as cover to move goods through The Great Crag. The club's symbol is a cobalt tooth set in iron, seen on rings carried by performers and on the backs of house knives.
