The Rowan & Stag Wayhouse

Founded a century ago beside an ancient rowan planted at a crossroads, the Wayhouse began as a shepherd's shelter that Muirenn's great-grandmother expanded after a chance meeting with a traveling fey. Over generations it grew into a trusted relay and safe haven for traders and nobles alike. Muirenn inherited the place as a young bard and, through savvy deals with both human lords and a nearby fey ring, transformed it into a high-quality roadside inn famed for its comforts and discreet services.

History

Founded a century ago beside an ancient rowan planted at a crossroads, the Wayhouse began as a shepherd's shelter that Muirenn's great-grandmother expanded after a chance meeting with a traveling fey. Over generations it grew into a trusted relay and safe haven for traders and nobles alike. Muirenn inherited the place as a young bard and, through savvy deals with both human lords and a nearby fey ring, transformed it into a high-quality roadside inn famed for its comforts and discreet services.

Quirks

Muirenn peppers conversation with flattering bits of verse; the common hall is lightly attuned to glamour magic so that scents, lighting and music subtly change depending on the dominant mood. Patrons with rowan tokens (given as small red wooden discs to regulars) receive slightly warmer service and occasionally clandestine messages from the Message Rowan.

Lore

Local folklore holds that the original rowan was planted on a seam of 'speechtide'—a small crossing of the world where mortals and fey could hear each other's voices when the wind blew right. The washrooms are built over a shallow ley pocket; the fae call it the 'Silver Cupping'. The inns along this old route were once part of a loose protective chain for travelers bound for the Hill-Realms. Old charms carved into the beams can, on certain nights, hum and reveal fragments of faerie song to those who sleep beneath them.
