The Sandglass Rest

The Sandglass Rest began as a caravan stop founded by a band of thrikeen traders who moved inland generations ago. They tunneled a cool cistern into the rock and taught locals how to weave sunshades and distill date-syrups. K'tala's family ran the place for decades; when bandit raids escalated, thrikeen defenders turned the stop into a defended rest-house, welcoming adventurers who could hold a line and keep the road open.

History

The Sandglass Rest began as a caravan stop founded by a band of thrikeen traders who moved inland generations ago. They tunneled a cool cistern into the rock and taught locals how to weave sunshades and distill date-syrups. K'tala's family ran the place for decades; when bandit raids escalated, thrikeen defenders turned the stop into a defended rest-house, welcoming adventurers who could hold a line and keep the road open.

Quirks

K'tala rings a brass sandglass at odd hours; when it finishes, servers bring a small 'riffraff cup' — a welcome free drink for those who perform a short jest or tale. The tavern's water jars have tiny glass beads that slowly change color depending on how many days have passed since the last sandstorm.

Lore

Locals say the thrikeen founders struck a pact with an old desert spirit: in exchange for guiding caravans safely for seven seasons, the town would guard a small relic called the Moon-Shell (a pearlescent horn). The Moon-Shell hasn't been seen in public for years; some claim it's hidden beneath the tavern's eastern stone. Old maps sometimes mark the area with thrikeen glyphs that glow faintly at moonrise — and the same glyphs are carved into the tavern's oldest beam.
