Road's Bend Inn and Tavern

Road's Bend Inn and Tavern was founded three generations ago by a traveling druid and a craftsman from the lowlands who fell in love with the bend of the river and the light that pools there at dawn. The inn grew around a cluster of standing stones said to mark a quiet ley crossing. Over the years the proprietors grafted sun-glass panes and living beams into the original timber, blending old tradition with curious new craft. The current innkeeper inherited the place after the last storm took the previous owner's roof, and she has kept the inn both welcoming and quietly watchful of the old stones.

History

Road's Bend Inn and Tavern was founded three generations ago by a traveling druid and a craftsman from the lowlands who fell in love with the bend of the river and the light that pools there at dawn. The inn grew around a cluster of standing stones said to mark a quiet ley crossing. Over the years the proprietors grafted sun-glass panes and living beams into the original timber, blending old tradition with curious new craft. The current innkeeper inherited the place after the last storm took the previous owner's roof, and she has kept the inn both welcoming and quietly watchful of the old stones.

Quirks

The skylights follow the sun like open eyes and are polished each morning with a warm oil by the innkeeper. The inn has a quiet custom: anyone who sings a true travel song may leave a single token in the bowl by the stones and receive a gratis cup of tea. A small sprite has adopted the rafters and steals one small, shiny thing from patrons each week. The innkeeper always knows when a stranger is lying during the first ale, but rarely calls them out unless coin or safety is at stake.

Lore

Locals tell a half-remembered tale that the bend in the river once held a small solar shrine tended by a circle of light-worshiping hermits who used ogham marks and sun-crystals to guide lost travelers. The inn's name preserves the place's old purpose: a pause on long journeys where body and wounds were healed and stories were swapped. Old women still leave small sprigs of rowan and elder at the foot of the stones on harvest eve to keep the bend favorable to caravans.
