The Four-Crown Hearth

Built three generations ago by a retired forester who swore he could make a hearth comfortable in any season, the Four-Crown Hearth began as a two-room shelter for wayward travelers. As the road to Lunga became busier, Marta's grandmother expanded the building upward and planted the first seasonal fungi beds. The inn has been held by the Vey family since. Over the years the tavern became a waypoint for merchants and pilgrims navigating the Four Seasons' oddities; it also survived a skirmish with bandits who mistakened its bioluminescent lights for a fey signal.

History

Built three generations ago by a retired forester who swore he could make a hearth comfortable in any season, the Four-Crown Hearth began as a two-room shelter for wayward travelers. As the road to Lunga became busier, Marta's grandmother expanded the building upward and planted the first seasonal fungi beds. The inn has been held by the Vey family since. Over the years the tavern became a waypoint for merchants and pilgrims navigating the Four Seasons' oddities; it also survived a skirmish with bandits who mistakened its bioluminescent lights for a fey signal.

Quirks

The inn's lanterns are a mixture of enchanted pumpkins and seasonal fungi that shift their hue nightly — on some nights hearth embers glow with an odd blue light. Staff will politely correct patrons who call the inn 'an ordinary roadside tavern' and will refuse to serve anyone who deliberately destroys the seasonal displays.

Lore

Locals believe the inn occupies ground where the Four Crowns once met — four leaning oaks shaped like crowns, long fallen and turned to roots under the foundations. Folktales claim that on rare autumn nights the crowns' spirits visit to test the kindness of travelers; those who pass the test are guided safely to Lunga, while those who fail find themselves walking in circles until spring. Townsfolk leave small carved pumpkins on the hearth to honor the crowns and keep the forest's moods steady.
