The Silent Stag

The Silent Stag was built over a century ago on the grounds of an old hunter’s lodge. The namesake stag’s head was reportedly taken from a massive creature felled by the innkeeper’s great-grandfather—its antlers said to be oddly twisted from some forgotten magic. Over the years, travelers, adventurers, and wanderers have found temporary refuge within its sturdy walls, drawn by the warmth of the hearth and the promise of a good meal. Many tales of strange disappearances, unexplained sounds, and odd patrons have been whispered but never fully explained.

History

The Silent Stag was built over a century ago on the grounds of an old hunter’s lodge. The namesake stag’s head was reportedly taken from a massive creature felled by the innkeeper’s great-grandfather—its antlers said to be oddly twisted from some forgotten magic. Over the years, travelers, adventurers, and wanderers have found temporary refuge within its sturdy walls, drawn by the warmth of the hearth and the promise of a good meal. Many tales of strange disappearances, unexplained sounds, and odd patrons have been whispered but never fully explained.

Quirks

The stag’s head mounted above the northern hearth seems to shift its gaze slightly when no one is looking. Cedric never seems to stay still and moves from task to task almost endlessly, yet no one else appears to notice. Shadows around the fire never behave as they should, often flickering and stretching contrary to the flames. Occasionally music from an unseen source drifts through the tavern, but no one else hears it or comments.

Lore

Local legend holds that the tavern straddles the boundary between worlds, a crossroads where the line between the known and the unknown blurs. The stag’s eyes are said to be a symbolic watch over those who linger on the threshold, some who come here to rest, others to hide, and a few seeking pathways to places that do not exist on any map. The rumor goes that solving an ancient riddle hidden somewhere within the inn’s creaking floorboards reveals a door—offering passage to realms beneath and beyond. But none who find it come back quite the same.
