Quirks

A brass bell behind the counter is rung twice to call staff and three times to warn of avalanche or other mountain danger. The lodge's owner keeps a mason's talisman above the door that guests often touch for luck. Patrons toss small carved tokens into the hearth for good weather—it's one reason the mantel is littered with trinkets.

Lore

Locals whisper that the mantel stones once belonged to a cairn that marked a path of the mountain spirits. Tossing a token into the hearth is said to secure a day's favor from the spirits—though some nights the embers spit cold blue sparks instead of the usual orange. Old hunters tell tales of a ghostly lantern that appears on the ridge during storms; those who follow it never return the same. The lodge's name is sometimes shortened to 'The Hearth' by regulars, who treat it as a neutral ground where debts can be renegotiated and grudges momentarily set aside.
