The Verdant Hearth was founded a decade ago by Miri's mother, a hunter and herbalist who wanted a safe place for forest folk and travelers. Built from a cleared copse and timber from a fallen ash, the tavern has always been a halfway point between two hamlets and the deeper wilds. Over the years it became a place for hunters to trade venison for insight and for lost travelers to find warmth and direction.

Quirks

Miri insists patrons hang a small strip of bark with their name when they register for a loft bed; the bark is later used to create large seasonal wreaths. On windy nights a set of tiny chimes at the doorway tinkles only for honest travelers (locals claim it's the forest deciding).

Lore

Locals tell of a 'Green Warden' — not a single spirit but an agreement between the forest and a line of caretakers who tend the tavern. Each decades-old wreath made from guests' bark is said to soothe the woodlands, and when the wreaths fail to be renewed, animals grow skittish and lights in the underbrush dim. Few outsiders take the tale seriously, but hunters nod whenever the subject comes up.
