Quirks

The inn keeps a small 'hearth kitty' - a clay pot where patrons toss a copper if they want good luck. The inn cat, Coal, will 'approve' coins by sitting on them; approved coins are said to be luckier. The inn also follows a peculiar closing ritual - the innkeeper bangs a spoon on the hearth three times and calls the name of the last guest who paid for a private room. Locals expect the closing ritual to ward away rodents and minor spirits, and newcomers often try to mimic it with humorous results.

Lore

Locals tell two persistent pieces of lore. First, the inn's hearth stone is said to have been carried from the watchtower where a minor ward kept the building safe; as long as a coin is placed on the hearth on the first night of a guest's stay, the guest will not be the target of petty misfortune while lodging there. Second, an old carved sigil in the cellar is rumored to be part of a map to an overlooked chapter of the War of Withering. Scholars and relic-hunters sometimes come through hoping to piece the story together.
