Quirks

The tavern never seems to be fully lit: lamps flicker when secrets are spoken, and patrons set coins on the bar upside down if they want to be ignored. A grisly ledger behind the bar lists favors rather than debts — names burn faintly within its pages when a promise is broken.

Lore

Local rumor claims the tavern's ledger was inked with a shard of a mirrormind's tooth — hence the ledger can 'remember' deals and flare up when obligations are breached. Guilds whisper that the Ledger is neutral ground bound by older contracts: no killing without the coinmaster's blessing, and disputes are settled by the 'Night Voting' — a bladeless duel judged by witnesses. To cross the Shadowed Ledger is to be entered into its records; some names vanish from the city rolls shortly after appearing in its pages.
