The Nightbloom Hollow

The Nightbloom Hollow began as a waystation for rangers and druids who tended a ring of standing stones nearby. Generations ago Mara's grandmother coaxed roots into a sheltered hall and began serving foragers and travelers. Over time the tavern acquired a reputation for being where lost things wash ashore—the place to trade oddities pulled from the forest. After an unexplained Withering a decade ago, the house adjusted its practices: stricter guest vetting, nightly wards, and the addition of the Moonwater Bath.

History

The Nightbloom Hollow began as a waystation for rangers and druids who tended a ring of standing stones nearby. Generations ago Mara's grandmother coaxed roots into a sheltered hall and began serving foragers and travelers. Over time the tavern acquired a reputation for being where lost things wash ashore—the place to trade oddities pulled from the forest. After an unexplained Withering a decade ago, the house adjusted its practices: stricter guest vetting, nightly wards, and the addition of the Moonwater Bath.

Quirks

The tavern's lanterns dim slightly when a lie is told loudly; the moss on the private curtains will unroll a little to 'listen' when rumors of danger are spoken. Staff take minor bets on whether newcomers are 'moon-touched'.

Lore

Local folklore claims the hollow sits atop a knot of ley lines where a minor nature spirit, the Hollow-Mother, once curated a balance between hunter and hunted. When outsiders violated a pact, the Hollow-Mother retreated into the heart tree, leaving a thin veil between waking and dream. Occasionally, creatures born of both shadow and blossom slip through. Some druids believe offerings at the tavern's stage may coax the spirit back; others warn the spirit remembers slights more than favors. Mara's family is one of the few with knowledge of the old chants, but they keep the most dangerous verses written only in faded sigils carved into the stage planks.
