Quirks

A brass griffin statue above the hearth sneezes (a faint puff of smoke) whenever a lie is spoken loudly in the common room. Bryndis keeps a 'song tally' written on a beam — anyone who sings a tune must pay a copper into the jar or be playfully pelted with dried beans by other patrons.

Lore

Local legend says the griffin emblem was carved from wood of a tree struck by a thunderwyrm and blessed by a wandering cleric. The statue over the hearth is rumored to be a minor guardian — it doesn't block great evils, but it has thwarted a few cursed trinkets and quieted a vengeful spirit once. The Gilded Griffin is also a common waypoint in adventuring circles—if a party needs discreet help or a place to fence small loots, the Griffin knows where to direct them (for a price).
