The Anvil & Ale

Established nearly a century ago when the city's eastern gate was first hewn from bedrock, the Anvil & Ale began as a miners' eating hall. Over generations it grew into a cornerstone of the city's social and commercial life. Brynja's great-grandfather hammered the tavern's founding bell — the bell still rings when important allies arrive. The tavern has brokered clan truces, hosted treaty signings between guilds, and sheltered refugees during the Smoldering Year.

History

Established nearly a century ago when the city's eastern gate was first hewn from bedrock, the Anvil & Ale began as a miners' eating hall. Over generations it grew into a cornerstone of the city's social and commercial life. Brynja's great-grandfather hammered the tavern's founding bell — the bell still rings when important allies arrive. The tavern has brokered clan truces, hosted treaty signings between guilds, and sheltered refugees during the Smoldering Year.

Quirks

The tavern's door-wardens knock once with a hammer before seating newcomers — a dwarven hospitality ritual. Patrons routinely swap a piece of ore or story for a discount; the back wall displays nails hammered in for each commissioned favor the tavern has fulfilled.

Lore

Local dwarven lore says the Anvil & Ale sits over an old chantry shaft whose stonework was blessed by a Rune-Singer when the city was young. It's said that if the hearth ever goes cold of its own accord, the deep halls will awaken and call the old guardians. Many also believe the nails hammered into the back wall are not mere tally marks but tiny wards fashioned from nails blessed in different mines — a subtle protection against bad luck and dark whisperings.
