The Golden Ray Hearth

The Golden Ray Hearth was founded two generations ago by Maribel's grandparents, who settled on this crossroads to offer warmth and ale to travelers. The family discovered a local strain of hop that, when dried on the south-facing racks, produced an unusually bright and aromatic brew. Over the years the inn grew from a single-room taphouse into a modest inn prized by merchants moving goods along the valley roads.

History

The Golden Ray Hearth was founded two generations ago by Maribel's grandparents, who settled on this crossroads to offer warmth and ale to travelers. The family discovered a local strain of hop that, when dried on the south-facing racks, produced an unusually bright and aromatic brew. Over the years the inn grew from a single-room taphouse into a modest inn prized by merchants moving goods along the valley roads.

Quirks

Everyone who walks through the door is offered a small 'sun token' — a brass disc stamped with a ray. Patrons tap tokens on the bar to order a second round if the first was pleasing. Orders are sung in a short rhyme if anyone's telling a tale; refusal of the rhyme is considered playful rudeness.

Lore

The Golden Ray Ale is said to owe some of its character to the 'sunfields' — terraces on the hill where halflings dry the hops at dawn so the first rays kiss the petals. Locals tell of a festival called the Raytide, when a barrel is carried through the town to ensure safe travel for the year. Some older halflings insist the recipe includes a pinch of 'sun-salted' lavender, a family secret passed only down the Underbough line.
