The Salty Siren

The Salty Siren was founded forty years ago by a retired sea captain who carved the siren figurehead from a mast salvaged from a vicious storm. It quickly became the gathering place for islanders, sailors, and adventurers seeking warmth, gossip, and refuge. Over the years it developed a reputation as a neutral ground where different crews and merchants could mingle safely, fostering uneasy alliances and exchanging secrets amid the scent of sea salt and spiced rum.

History

The Salty Siren was founded forty years ago by a retired sea captain who carved the siren figurehead from a mast salvaged from a vicious storm. It quickly became the gathering place for islanders, sailors, and adventurers seeking warmth, gossip, and refuge. Over the years it developed a reputation as a neutral ground where different crews and merchants could mingle safely, fostering uneasy alliances and exchanging secrets amid the scent of sea salt and spiced rum.

Quirks

The Salty Siren’s wooden floors creak rhythmically with the distant rolling of the waves. A carved figurehead of a siren with multiple arms greets guests at the entrance, said to be carved from the mast of a shipwreck. Occasionally, a local child is allowed to ring the brass bell atop the inn to mark ‘fate’s hour,’ a superstition that promises luck to daring adventurers.

Lore

According to local legend, the carved siren at the entrance protects the inn from storms and ill fortune. Some say the figure’s many arms represent the guardianship of the sea’s many deities, while others believe she can summon aid by the strength of the tides. Long ago, a secret society of mariners met below the tavern to plot against island invaders, leaving behind hidden signs that remain unseen to casual visitors but recognizable to those bearing the Waveborn’s mark.
