The Cloven Hoof

The Cloven Hoof began as a wayside alehouse thirty years ago, founded by Mira's father—an ex-forester who carved the hoof sign after an encounter with a wild stag. Over the years the inn grew into a modest inn favored by hunters, merchants and the occasional adventuring party. During the winter of the Long Freeze, Mira negotiated with a passing caravan to shelter dozens of travelers and earned lasting goodwill that keeps the inn stocked through lean seasons.

History

The Cloven Hoof began as a wayside alehouse thirty years ago, founded by Mira's father—an ex-forester who carved the hoof sign after an encounter with a wild stag. Over the years the inn grew into a modest inn favored by hunters, merchants and the occasional adventuring party. Quirks

A brass cloven-hoof token is chained beneath the bar; locals rub it for luck. Every third night the hearth flames glow faintly green and the bar’s shadows seem to move one second behind their owners.

Lore

Local superstition says the carved hoof was blessed (or bound) by a wandering sylvan spirit—on certain nights the innkeeper dreams of meadows she has never seen. Some believe the Hoof wards against wandering dire beasts; others whisper it marks the inn as a crossroads favored by the fey. Clerics from the nearby temple occasionally examine the hoof for runes and find the wood warm to the touch despite its age.
