The Searing Anvil

The Searing Anvil was carved into a cooled basalt cavern beneath the southern terrace several generations ago by a cooperative of smiths who sought a permanent hearth near the ore veins feeding Kelethor Spire. It began as a communal hearth for laborers and evolved into a tavern where soldiers, artisans and travelers converged. Brenna Ironhand took ownership after saving the hall from a collapsing vent during a winter quake and has kept it a sanctuary for those who work with iron and fight with it.

History

The Searing Anvil was carved into a cooled basalt cavern beneath the southern terrace several generations ago by a cooperative of smiths who sought a permanent hearth near the ore veins feeding Kelethor Spire. It began as a communal hearth for laborers and evolved into a tavern where soldiers, artisans and travelers converged. Brenna Ironhand took ownership after saving the hall from a collapsing vent during a winter quake and has kept it a sanctuary for those who work with iron and fight with it.

Quirks

The hearth bell is struck once for newcomers and again for anyone who orders a repair at the forge — the echo carries throughout the cavern and smiths glance up automatically. Many patrons bring their hammers and set them on the communal rack; politeness demands you don't pick them up without permission.

Lore

Old tales claim the basalt of the cavern was once part of the Spire itself — cooled flows from an ancient eruption that sealed a primordial forge. Some of the smiths here still use techniques rumored to be taught by the Spire's original keepers, and certain patterned hammermarks used in local armors bear sigils that match broken stones found higher on Kelethor Spire. Whispers say the Spire holds a heart of living metal; whether that is metaphor or truth depends on who buys you a drink.
