The Gilded Kettle

The inn was opened twenty-three years ago by Marta Brindle's parents to serve merchants traveling the old north road. It started as a single-room alehouse and grew after the road was rerouted following the last border skirmish. The kettle sign was salvaged from a burned farmstead and kept as a reminder of the costs of war. Over the years the Gilded Kettle became a gentle waypoint for farmers, peddlers and the occasional hedge wizard seeking a warm hearth.

History

The inn was opened twenty-three years ago by Marta Brindle's parents to serve merchants traveling the old north road. It started as a single-room alehouse and grew after the road was rerouted following the last border skirmish. The kettle sign was salvaged from a burned farmstead and kept as a reminder of the costs of war. Over the years the Gilded Kettle became a gentle waypoint for farmers, peddlers and the occasional hedge wizard seeking a warm hearth.

Quirks

The inn's cat, Button, prefers to curl on the coin tray and will only allow coins to be counted if petted first. Marta keeps a brass token system for rooms instead of keys. On stormy nights the hearth's flame will flare blue for a heartbeat when a guest speaks a true name aloud.

Lore

Local children claim a small willow outside the inn keeps watch over guests, and older folk say the inn stands on a ley crossing used by traveling bards long ago. The kettle sign is said to have been hung by a soldier who swore to return, and some swear that on stormy nights you can hear a marching step from the lane.
