The Hearth & Hound

The Hearth & Hound began as a wayside shelter two decades ago, opened by Marta's late husband who ran caravans between market towns. When he vanished on one winter trip, Marta kept the inn running and built the stables and rooms to serve travelers and local tradesfolk. Over the years it's become a dependable midpoint for traders and a warm refuge for villagers during harsh seasons.

History

The Hearth & Hound began as a wayside shelter two decades ago, opened by Marta's late husband who ran caravans between market towns. When he vanished on one winter trip, Marta kept the inn running and built the stables and rooms to serve travelers and local tradesfolk. Over the years it's become a dependable midpoint for traders and a warm refuge for villagers during harsh seasons.

Quirks

A small brass bell hangs by the bar; Marta rings it once for 'hushed stories' — anyone who speaks above a whisper after the bell is rung must buy a round. A scruffy hound named Bramble snoozes by the hearth and will refuse to move if given a scrap of roast hen.

Lore

Folklore says the original hearthstone was taken from the foundation of a small boundary cairn that once marked a meeting place between herding clans. Locals claim that if a newcomer sleeps with their back to the hearth three nights in a row, they dream of the cairn's old name and sometimes wake with a small scrap of blue ribbon or a smooth, moon-worn pebble in their pocket.
