The Cracked Cask

The Cracked Cask was built from the ruins of an old waystation, its walls and beams reclaimed from a long-burned border fort. Hearty and almost impenetrable, it’s survived fires, riots, and more than one magical mishap. Its fame comes not only from stiff drinks and hard brawlers, but from legends that every big adventure in these parts seems to begin (or end) within its walls.

History

The Cracked Cask was built from the ruins of an old waystation, its walls and beams reclaimed from a long-burned border fort. Hearty and almost impenetrable, it’s survived fires, riots, and more than one magical mishap. Its fame comes not only from stiff drinks and hard brawlers, but from legends that every big adventure in these parts seems to begin (or end) within its walls.

Quirks

The tavern’s roof is scarred with axe marks and the rafters bear dozens of carved names—tables are branded with scorch marks and some stools appear to have been repaired more often than replaced. Almost every night features a full-bellied brawl (sometimes staged, sometimes not). Storm lanterns swing above the tables, frequently knocked loose by wild dancing or thrown tankards.

Lore

A legend persists that the Ironjaw clan—still led by Grava—smuggled the tavern's original casks straight out of the Underdark. Some claim the secret tunnels below the Brawling Pit hide untouched treasure from the first age of the city, but only the bravest (or drunkest) dare to search for proof. It’s whispered that when brawlers bleed on the floor, the tavern’s old stones soak it up… and somewhere beneath, something stirs, waiting to be fed again.
