Quirks

Mugs are stamped with a little ember mark for regulars. The inn cat, Puff, collects small shiny things and leaves them in a basket behind the hearth. When newcomers speak lies near the notice board, the ink on old postings seems to darken for a moment. The hearth is always slightly warm even when the fire is low.

Lore

Local folk say the inn stands on the edge of an old waystone, a marker once used by pilgrims to find safe roads. Stories claim the stone keeps the inn sheltered from the worst of storms and that an ancient watch spirit sleeps beneath the hearth. Children are told that placing a scrap of cloth in the hearth on Samfold night will bring a safe journey next year. Scholars might note faint carved runes under the hearthstones, older than the inn itself.
