The Hearth & Hummock

Built nearly thirty years ago by a pair of retired river-fisherfolk, the Hearth & Hummock began as a single-room alehouse. Mara bought it from the founders a decade ago and expanded it into an inn, adding the stage and the small stable; townsfolk credit her with keeping the place safe through a bad winter and the bandit run that followed.

History

Built nearly thirty years ago by a pair of retired river-fisherfolk, the Hearth & Hummock began as a single-room alehouse. Mara bought it from the founders a decade ago and expanded it into an inn, adding the stage and the small stable; townsfolk credit her with keeping the place safe through a bad winter and the bandit run that followed.

Quirks

A small clay raven hangs above the hearth; customers tap it gently for 'good luck' and Mara occasionally uses it to signal the staff when trouble brews.

Lore

Locals whisper that the stone behind the hearth was taken from a chapel long buried when the river changed course. Superstition says the stone keeps the inn warm through any storm; others insist the tavern's clay raven once belonged to a storm-swept ship captain whose treasure was never found. The raven ornament is rubbed for luck by travelers, and sometimes coins appear in its perch come morning.
