The Silver Rowan

Founded a century ago by Rowan O'Carroll, a wandering storyteller who planted a single rowan sapling when the road washed out in a storm. The inn was built around that tree — its roots mingle with the stone and the hearth shares the tree's warmth. Over generations, The Silver Rowan became a waypoint for travelers and a meeting spot for local clans. Maeve, descended from the founder, rebuilt much of the inn after a winter flood and preserved the old rites: ribbons for safe passage, the nightly lament, and the sealed vow in the cellar.

History

Founded a century ago by Rowan O'Carroll, a wandering storyteller who planted a single rowan sapling when the road washed out in a storm. The inn was built around that tree — its roots mingle with the stone and the hearth shares the tree's warmth. Over generations, The Silver Rowan became a waypoint for travelers and a meeting spot for local clans. Maeve, descended from the founder, rebuilt much of the inn after a winter flood and preserved the old rites: ribbons for safe passage, the nightly lament, and the sealed vow in the cellar.

Quirks

Patrons leave woven ribbons or a sprig of rowan at the antlered mount over the hearth when they pass through; the ribbons are occasionally rearranged overnight into patterns that repeat old clan knots. When the fiddler plays the old lament, some claim they briefly glimpse far-off places or faces from their past.

Lore

Local lore ties the inn to the Sidhe and to an old promise: in exchange for shelter and song, the founders left a yearly plate of milk and bread beneath the rowan's roots. In return, the tree's protection shielded the road from furious storms and wayward spirits. Elders say the rune in the cellar is a binding that once kept a small but troublesome fae-bound warband from returning. The fae respect oaths made in song and stone — break them, and the world remembers.
