The Thorned Cup

The Thorned Cup began as an outpost for traveling ritualists thirty years ago when the Binding was renewed. Varis inherited the tavern after his mentor fell in a disputed ritual. Over the decades it became a meeting place for the Old Guard and for apprentices learning the old rites. The thorned motif was added after a near-lynching of a suspected traitor — the bar's ironwork was reforged into protective, spiked patterns as a reminder and a deterrent.

History

The Thorned Cup began as an outpost for traveling ritualists thirty years ago when the Binding was renewed. Varis inherited the tavern after his mentor fell in a disputed ritual. Over the decades it became a meeting place for the Old Guard and for apprentices learning the old rites. The thorned motif was added after a near-lynching of a suspected traitor — the bar's ironwork was reforged into protective, spiked patterns as a reminder and a deterrent.

Quirks

Every drink is served with a short ritual blessing led by an on-duty ritualist. Refusing the blessing is considered a deliberate insult and may draw stares or cold service.

Lore

Rumor holds the blue hearth is a shard of a sealed binding flame from a bygone war; some say it is a fragment of the very magic that holds the city's wards. The thorned mugs are carved from the roots of a 'black briar' that grows nowhere else save a single hidden grove. Those who drink Briar Bitter three nights running are said to dream of the same nameless figure — some call it a warning, others a calling.
