The Creaking Kettle

The Creaking Kettle began as a two-room farmhouse rented by the Flickertop family of gnomes twenty years ago. Brindle's parents opened it to passing drovers and apprentices, prized for its warm hearth and cheap beds. Over the years the Flickertops added the stage and the storybox; the inn became known as a safe, comfortable stop for traders, scouts, and low-level adventurers.

History

The Creaking Kettle began as a two-room farmhouse rented by the Flickertop family of gnomes twenty years ago. Brindle's parents opened it to passing drovers and apprentices, prized for its warm hearth and cheap beds. Over the years the Flickertops added the stage and the storybox; the inn became known as a safe, comfortable stop for traders, scouts, and low-level adventurers.

Quirks

Every night at eight, Brindle winds the 'storybox' and it obligingly tosses out three silver-tongued riddles to encourage tips. The inn's shelves are crowded with tiny mechanical trinkets that chirp or puff steam when nobody's looking.

Lore

Local children claim the fireplace hides a 'listening brick' where the first Flickertop trapped a helpful wind spirit; Brindle denies it but keeps an old tin whistle on the mantle that whistles back when no one blows into it. Some elders say the Kettle stood on the edge of a minor ley line, which gives the gnomish trinkets their odd, life-like motions.
