The Thatching Hearth

The Thatching Hearth began as a one-room wayhouse twenty-five years ago, built by Marla's parents for harvesters and passing merchants on the old Greenway Road. Over the years it grew with a stable, a stage, and a second wing after the river road was rerouted. It survived a small border skirmish when Marla's father famously negotiated with raiders over mugs of ale rather than parting coins. Marla inherited the inn five years ago after serving as a caravan guard; she reworked the rooms and made the stage a weekly fixture.

History

The Thatching Hearth began as a one-room wayhouse twenty-five years ago, built by Marla's parents for harvesters and passing merchants on the old Greenway Road. Over the years it grew with a stable, a stage, and a second wing after the river road was rerouted. It survived a small border skirmish when Marla's father famously negotiated with raiders over mugs of ale rather than parting coins. Marla inherited the inn five years ago after serving as a caravan guard; she reworked the rooms and made the stage a weekly fixture.

Quirks

A soot-black cat named Ash wanders the tavern and perches only on the laps of those who will get lucky. The hearth stones are known to hold little rune scratches—locals say rubbing the lower right stone grants better sleep. Marla polishes one particular pewter tankard more than the others and refuses to say why.

Lore

Locals speak of 'Granny Hearth,' an old household spirit said to bless those who leave a drop of mead on the sill during planting season; crops around the inn's fields are said to be heartier. The Greenway Road itself is whispered to have hidden lanes and markers only few know — the tiny carved tokens that have started to appear are rumored to be the work of a guide network that helps bypass tolls, and sometimes, trouble.
