The Condensed Flask
The Condensed Flask was opened a dozen years ago by Ni Koma's grandmother as a pot-and-coal room for tired laborers from Kure's steamworks. Ni Koma apprenticed under her, learning both the recipes for cheap, warming food and the basics of condenser rigs scavenged from the workshops. Over time Ni Koma improved the cellar's contraption, using it to concentrate spirits and to heat the tavern cheaply. The house became a favored stop for dayworkers, small-time smugglers, and anyone who preferred warmth and a cheap meal to fine wine and lecture halls. The tavern survived a minor riot and two bankruptcies; each time its sticky floor and steaming windows greeted a slightly different crowd.
