Quirks

A soot-streaked black cat named Sooty roams the room and is known to curl up on guests' laps or discreetly swipe coins from unattended purses. Patrons customarily carve a small notch into one of the communal wooden tankards when sharing a long tale—the notches are tallied on a wooden beam behind the bar.

Lore

Locals claim that on fog-thick nights you can hear a lullaby—'The Lantern's Lullaby'—that no living voice seems to sing. The lullaby is said to be the memory of a long-ago innkeeper who watched over travelers and guided one lost child to safety; some swear a small coin left with Sooty on the hearth will bring safe travel. The inn's honey mead recipe is a closely held secret, said to be from an apiary on a hill that once belonged to the caravan company that used the old road.
