The Plumed Anchor

The Plumed Anchor began as a lean-to where fisherman traded fish for bread and beer. About twenty-five years ago Mirabel's grandmother, a wandering performer who loved chickens, convinced the harbor community to let her turn the lean-to into a proper tavern. Over time the chicken motif grew as a tavern joke—costumed entertainers and enchanted barnyard birds were added for charm, and the tavern became a favorite among sailors and small-time smugglers. Mirabel inherited it and, with a bit of bardic showmanship and a few discreet contacts among the harborfolk, turned it into the bustling dockside pub it is today.

History

Quirks

All server-chickens wear tiny waiter outfits and fake black mustaches glued to a feather band; they bob politely when addressed, deliver plates with practiced hops, and will occasionally steal a napkin. The staff hums a low call-and-response sea shanty before last orders. Regulars sometimes leave small trinkets in the coop instead of coins — the tavernkeeper keeps a 'found things' jar behind the bar.

Lore

Locals tell a half-joking tale that the first chicken waitstaff were enchanted by a traveling enchanter who owed Mirabel a favor after a night of good ale. That enchantment supposedly binds the tavern to the 'Feathered Oath' — a minor folk-blessing that keeps misfortune from blighting the dockside businesses. Superstitious sailors toss a feather from the tavern into the sea before long voyages for calm waters; merchants claim the feathers bring fair deals. Whether the Oath is true or simply a string of lucky nights is a matter of debate among scholars and captains.
